This upcoming edition of REMINISCE, dubbed "Billy Clint", is being done in conjunction with the DC Chapter of NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers) in support of their 25th anniversary scholarship fundraiser. The goal is to raise money to give away scholarships to high school students looking to enter STEM majors. We will be doing a VSB-centric thing here with them soon, but this is the get down. An explanation of the scholarship fundraiser is below:
US News stated that science and technology careers are the "best jobs" and ranked these jobs as the top 15 careers in 2013. The National Science Foundation reported a low 9.9% of Master's degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields were awarded to African Americans compared to 63.2% of Caucasians. The National Society of Black Engineers DC Professionals has established a 25 year legacy of commitment to the advancement of STEM. Partnering with local area schools, NSBE DC delivers tutoring, mentoring and education to students igniting curiosity and interest about STEM professions. Mentoring and education are also offered to STEM students in DC colleges to improve retention and graduation rates for African Americans. Each year, NSBE DC awards scholarships to high school seniors seeking to pursue STEM degrees at accredited colleges. To celebrate the 25th anniversary, NSBE DC seeks to award $25,000 in scholarships to high school seniors, however, we need community support and funding to meet this aggressive goal and impact change in our community. Any donation is accepted and appreciated. For questions and further inquiries, please firstname.lastname@example.org.
So for those coming out who feel a desire to donate, please do. You can either purchase a ticket to REMINISCE (portions of all proceeds go to the scholarship fundraiser) OR donate money at the door. So if you want to donate via ticket purchase, there's a way to do so via the link provided below.
We're gonna party for and with a cause!
